At the end of last year, Google gave Wear OS users an updated Weather Tile. Well according to 9to5Google, it looks like a Wear OS UV Index complication is on the way for Wear OS watch faces. Any updates to Wear OS is always good news.
Today the Weather complication is the only one that shows the current condition and temperature. This makes sense considering it is a weather-focused complication. However, the one for UV index is similarly styled. It even matches all other small complication styles.
When a user opens the full Weather app it currently shows the high/low precipitation chance, and forecasts for a few hours into the future. The ultraviolet index ranges from 0 to 11+. The scale is an “international standard measurement of the strength of sunburn-producing ultraviolet radiation at a particular place and time.”
Google says that the UV index complication is in the process of rolling out, and will be available for all Wear OS watches. Well, it will be available for all Wear OS watches running the latest updates. Wear OS seems to be getting some reinvigoration as of late.
News around Wear OS has been building lately. Watchmaker Casio recently announced its G-Shock smartwatch which will run Wear OS. The name of this new watch is the G-Squad Pro GSW-H1000. It looks like the classic G-Shock everyone has come to love.
However, it does have a hefty price tag of $600. But, it’s a G-Shock. Other news surrounding Wear OS includes news of a Wear OS Samsung smartwatch. Samsung originally was using Wear OS(Android Wear) for its first smartwatches, but it then jumped to using Tizen.
Tizen is Samsung’s proprietary OS it has been using on its smartwatches and other electronics. Samsung is no stranger to working with Google on smartwatches, but it has been a long time since they made one with Google’s OS. This news is good for Wear OS and its fans.
Other news surrounding Wear OS is a tad bit of a letdown. OnePlus’s smartwatch was originally rumored to run Wear OS. A lot of people have been waiting for an OnePlus smartwatch. However, it is here without Wear OS.
All in all, it is good to see that Wear OS is still alive and well. For a while, it seemed like Google had given up on its wearable operating system. Now with new releases, and rumored releases on the way it seems to be more alive than ever. For now, though the Wear OS UV index complication will have to keep users happy. Check out what the complication looks like below.
