Android 12 DP3 (Developer Preview 3) has landed and added quite a few new changes to Google’s software. In addition to everything we’ve already talked about on the site, Android 12 DP3 also delivers some changes to the Settings menu, reports Android Police.

An earlier build of Android 12 changed things up to a degree. It separated the profile picture in the top-right corner from the search bar, and it made that search bar far earlier to spot. In addition to that, it changed the background color. In light mode, it made it darker, in dark mode, it made it lighter. On top of everything, that update changed the icons as well, it made them round.

Android 12 DP3 changes the Settings menu even more

Now, Android 12 Developer Preview 3 changes things even further, as you can see below. It adds the word “Settings” at the top, above the search bar. The profile picture is in the same place it was thus far.

The thing is, the word “Settings” is quite large, it has a large font. Google probably did this to make using the phone with one hand easier, as the vast majority of options are now available in the lower portion of the display.

On top of all that, the animations have changed, things are more “bouncy” now, for lack of a better word. You’ll notice that when you’re scrolling. Some of these changes were already available in Android 12 DP2, but hidden behind a flag. They no longer are.

It seems like Google got inspired by Samsung’s One UI design

That being said, this new Settings menu looks a lot more like Samsung’s One UI. It also resembles OnePlus’ OxygenOS settings menu, as OxygenOS 11 was inspired by One UI, to a degree.

Google is expected to deliver a couple of Android 12 Beta build before it rolls out a stable build of the software. We’re still months away from a stable build, as it is expected to land in August. So, you can expect some additional changes as we’re coming closer to the stable build.
