The April 2021 Android security patch is now rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G. The device is picking up the new update in several markets across the Middle East and the Far East, including Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the UAE. The rollout should expand to other regions in the coming weeks.
The 5G variant of Samsung’s latest affordable Galaxy flagship is fairly late to the April security update party. Its 4G sibling received this month’s Android security maintenance release (SMR) a couple of weeks back. It was one of the first Galaxy devices to pick up the new update, as Samsung started the rollout much before Google could detail the contents of the latest security patch.
Along with the Galaxy S20 FE duo, Samsung’s Galaxy S21, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A52, Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy A71, and Galaxy S20 phones have also received the April 2021 Android security patch over the past couple of weeks. More Galaxy devices should join the party in the coming days.
The April update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G comes with the firmware version G781BXXU2CUD1. While we don’t have a changelog to confirm the contents of the new update, it should bring more than just the vulnerability fixes from Samsung and Google. We will update you with the information if there are any major new additions once we inspect the changelog.
Talking about vulnerability fixes, there are plenty of those as well. The April 2021 Android security update fixes as many as six critical vulnerabilities found on Android OS. The update also patches more than four dozen vulnerabilities that are labeled as high-severity items.
On top of that, this month’s Android SMR resolves 21 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items as well. SVEs are security bugs that are specific to Samsung’s custom Android skin, i.e. One UI. From incorrect use of encryption algorithm to improper permission management, the new update fixes plenty of such bugs that range between low to high-risk severity.
It’s always recommended to update your device to the latest available security patch. The April 2021 security update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G only started arriving on the phone over the weekend. It should reach more markets as the week progresses. So if you own the device, be on the lookout for a new update in the coming days.
