Casio G Squad Pro Wear OS Smartwatch

Casio has just announced that it has a new smartwatch coming soon, the GSW-H1000. It will run Google's Wear OS, and it's also built to take some major abuse.

Officially, Casio's new smartwatch will be called the G-Squad Pro GSW-H1000. This smartwatch will be a ruggedized device, which means that it won't be winning any beauty contests.

It's undoubtedly going to be for workers and people who spend much of their time outdoors who feel that an Apple Watch would not survive. It'll have a chunky design with a weight to match. Casio has confirmed that it will weigh a whopping 104 grams (3.67 ounces). For reference, the newest Apple Watches weigh between 35 and 40 grams.

This will be a really tough smartwatch

The size dimensions are speculated to be 65.6 x 56.3 x 19.5mm. All of the added heft will be the thick and rugged body that'll be made of aluminum and urethane. It'll also have a titanium back plate. Needless to say, this can take a fall or two! It will share the same display as the Pro Trek smartwatches- also made by Casio. The GSW-H1000 will be low on pixel count for the sake of conserving battery.

It'll be a 1.32 inch display with a resolution of 320 x 300. The display will be a TFT LCD panel that will switch to a monotone mode for time keeping.

Casio has not officially stated the battery capacity of the GSW-H1000. It has specified that it will have over a month's worth of battery if it's only keeping time. With Casio's disregard for thinness, the point can be made that they're open to putting a relatively large battery in this smartwatch. This is a series that prioritizes usability and longevity over looks and appeal.

Casio has confirmed that the GSW-H1000 will have hardware like a heartrate monitor, GPS, and a gyroscope. It'll also communicate your health and activity data with it's proprietary app.

One of the features that Casio boasts in the app is the ability to take videos and pictures of you and combine that data with information gathered from the watch. This is to make content that can be shared on social media.

The GSW-H1000 will launch in May with a hefty price tag

This is Casio's first G-Shock smartwatch that will run Wear OS. It has not confirmed an exact date to expect the GSW-H1000 to hit the shelves, but we do know that it will launch some time in May, this year.

It will launch at the price of $600, which is pretty high for most smartwatches, but factoring in the rigidity and longevity that this device boasts, it's well justified. You can expect this smartwatch to last a couple of years before having to trade up.
