Clubhouse, the invite-only audio-chat app that has been exclusive to iOS since its launch in March last year, is coming to Android in a "couple of months". The launch time frame has been confirmed by the app's co-founder Paul Davison, TechCrunch reports.

According to the report, Paul revealed the information during the company's weekly Townhall event this weekend. He said the company is working "really hard" to launch the Clubhouse app on Android. However, it will still take at least a "couple of months" for its developers to make that happen.

Earlier in January, Clubhouse had said that it is beginning to work on the Android version of the app soon. The company did not share any sort of expected time frame for the Android debut though. However, it hired an Android software developer last month, signaling that the work has finally begun. Now, the latest statements from the app's co-founder suggest Android users may get the taste of Clubhouse within the first half of this year.

Rival services are beating Clubhouse to Android launch

The Clubhouse app was launched on the App Store in March 2020. This was the time when the world was going to a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic. People were forced to stay home, with no social interactions, paving way for social media apps like Clubhouse. The audio-focused chat app quickly gained huge popularity among iPhone users around the world. It crossed 10 million downloads on the App Store globally in less than a year since launch.

The company has time and again talked about the importance of supporting the Android user base as well. However, most of those statements have been vague mentions with seemingly no significant progress in this regard. While we now have a tentative launch date, but Clubhouse's delay means its rival services are beating it to the punch.

Twitter has already rolled out its Clubhouse-style audio chat room, Spaces, to Android users. First announced for iOS users in December last year, it didn't take much longer for the social media giant to bring the feature to Android, albeit in beta.

Twitter has, in fact, said that it plans to make Spaces available to everyone in April. So it is still beating Clubhouse to the Android launch, unless the latter rapidly speeds up development. It will now be interesting to see whether Clubhouse manages to bring its app to Android with the promised "couple of months."
