Last month, we saw that development on Clubhouse for Android had been started, but there have not been any other details as to when the app would launch. Today, the company released its latest update for the iOS app, but also shared that the Android version has finally gone into its beta testing phase.

While this is not an “Open Beta” that you can find on the Play Store, it is an indication that we are closer than ever to an official launch. In the release, Clubhouse shared that it will open the beta program up for more users over the “coming weeks”.

Android is not yet live, but we started rolling a rough beta version out to a handful of friendly testers. If you hear someone saying they are using Clubhouse on the official Android app, please give them a warm welcome! We cannot wait to welcome more Android users to Clubhouse over the coming weeks.

It’s great to see that Clubhouse is finally making its way to Android, the company may have waited a bit too long. Thanks to Scott Nover on Twitter, Sensor Tower has reported that Clubhouse downloads were just around 922,000 in the month of April. This is an enormous drop-off compared to the 2.7 million downloads in March, and almost 10 million downloads in February.

After seeing the rise in popularity of Twitter Spaces, it seems that Clubhouse’s popularity has definitely passed its peak. Maybe that will change when the app launches on Android, but we’ll have to wait and see how that all plays out.
