Music streaming biggie Deezer has announced a family plan for its HiFi (high fidelity or lossless) streaming tier. Starting this week, existing Deezer HiFi subscribers can upgrade to the Family HiFi plan for just $19.99 per month. You can add up to six accounts to the family plan.
An individual subscription to Deezer's HiFi streaming tier currently costs $14.99 per month. So the new offering costs just $5 more for five additional accounts. This effectively breaks down to $1 for each additional profile. Not very costly given you're getting ad-free access to more than 70 million high-fidelity tracks.
"We always listen to our customer feedback and continue innovating our service. We know that a growing number of fans truly appreciate incredible sound and want to share this experience with their whole family. Our new subscription plan now means the entire household can enjoy supreme high fidelity music," said Yoav Banai, Vice President of Customer Engagement at Deezer.
Deezer's new dedicated Family HiFi tier is now available worldwide. It includes parental controls for filtering kids' access, FLAC quality downloads, curated recommendations including a Family Mix, a dedicated "HiFi Room" with exclusive HiFi content, access to the "360 by Deezer" app that lets you hear tracks in Sony's "360 Reality Audio" format, and priority customer service.
Like all other Deezer plans, Deezer Family HiFi is also accessible through both mobile and desktop apps, as well as via the company's partner devices. However, as said earlier, the new HiFi plan is currently only open to existing individual HiFi subscribers as an upgrade. The company says it will be available to new subscribers later this year, for the same price. Hopefully, it will continue to offer the three-month free trial period to new Family HiFi subscribers as well.
Tidal is the only other big music streaming service that currently offers a Family HiFi tier. However, it costs $29.99 a month for up to six profiles. Tidal's individual HiFi tier also comes slightly costlier at $19.99 per month. Both Deezer and Tidal though offer a Premium plan with standard sound quality at $9.99 per month. Their Family Premium plans also cost the same at $14.99 per month for up to six profiles.
Spotify is also preparing to introduce a HiFi streaming tier later this year. It will be interesting to see whether the company offers a Family HiFi plan and how it prices its new offering. Spotify's Premium streaming tier costs the same as that of Deezer and Tidal, i.e. $9.99 and $14.99 per month for the individual and family plans respectively.
