Battlefield Mobile Game

Battlefield is one of the most popular first-person shooter franchises on PC and consoles, and now it’s coming to mobile devices. Today, over on its official blog, EA announced that it has two new Battlefield games coming, and one of those is a mobile game.

EA says that both games are now currently in development. The mobile title is slated for a 2022 release, so it isn’t coming anytime soon. The announcement doesn’t mention anything about a specific 2022 timeframe. But it’s likely that the release won’t be happening until at least the middle of the year.

The Battlefield mobile title is already in testing

EA may not have given a release date but it does confirm that the game is already in a testing phase. These are internal play tests mind you, but play tests are happening nonetheless.

And with testing underway even if it is just internal, it means the game is at a stage in the development where it is somewhat playable. EA says it will be ready to share more details in the future. Suggesting that fans of the Battlefield series keep their eyes peeled for any updates.

The Battlefield mobile title is being developed by DICE in collaboration with Industrial Toys. DICE is a long-time studio under EA and is the main development studio behind the Battlefield series.

Industrial Toys meanwhile, has two mobile games under its belt. Midnight Star and Midnight Star: Renegade. Both of which are shooter titles for iOS. Industrial Toys was also co-founded by Alex Seropian, who co-founded Bungie. Bungie is well-known for its creation of the Halo series and its now widely popular looter shooters Destiny and Destiny 2.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the Battlefield mobile title will be good. But it is in good hands. And that bodes well for the game’s release.

This will be a standalone Battlefield game built from the ground up

What little detail has been shared so far sounds promising. GM of DICE Oskar Gabrielson says this will be a standalone title in the Battlefield series. So it won’t be tied to the console and PC titles beyond being from the same franchise.

It’ll also be “a completely different game from the one being made for those platforms.” Make of that what you will. Gabrielson also states that it’s being built from the ground up, and that it will provide a fully-fledged, skill-based experience.

That probably means players can expect the experience to be similar to games like Call Of Duty: Mobile, PUBG MOBILE, and Fortnite. All of which employ a skill-based design by way of multiplayer PvP.
