Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Review AM AH 8

The May 2021 Android security update is now rolling out to Samsung‘s Galaxy S20 series. The 2020 flagships are currently receiving the latest Android security maintenance release (SMR) in Germany. It comes with the firmware version G98xxXXU7DUDB.

Apart from next month’s Android SMR, the latest update for the Galaxy S20 series also bundles a couple of other improvements. According to the official changelog, the new update brings improvements to camera performance and Quick Share. These same improvements accompanied the May security update for the Galaxy S21 series as well.

For the uninitiated, Quick Share is Samsung’s own file sharing service. It lets you share everything – photos, videos, and documents – with up to five friends simultaneously. Much like Google’s Nearby Sharing and Apple’s AirDrop, Quick Share can also show “which of your contacts is nearby” so you can easily send files to them.

As far as the content of the May 2021 Android security patch is concerned, we are in as much darkness as you are. Neither Google nor Samsung has detailed the latest Android SMR as yet. Of course, it is not even May yet, so we can’t really blame them. Just that Samsung has been a bit too quick in releasing the new security patch to its devices, as always.

The Korean firm has already seeded next month’s Android SMR to the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and now, the Galaxy S20 series. Expect the company to rapidly push the latest security patch to more Galaxy devices in the coming weeks. We should also get to know the details of the new patch early next week.

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series get May security update

The May security update for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra is a fairly large download over the air (OTA), weighing at over 600MB. As said earlier, it is currently rolling out to users in Germany. However, it should now be only a matter of time before the rollout expands to other territories.

If you own any of these devices, you should receive a notification prompting you to download the OTA file in the coming days. You can also manually trigger a search for the latest OTA update from your phone’s Settings app. Navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If you’re on a limited cellular data plan, we recommend you connect your phone to an unmetered and stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the OTA file to avoid incurring unwanted data charges.
