The April 2021 Android security patch is now rolling out to Samsung‘s clamshell folding phone Galaxy Z Flip. The device is picking up the new update in countless European countries with the firmware version F700FXXS4DUD3. The rollout began over the past 24 hours or so and has already covered much of Europe. It should only be a matter of time before the April update for the Galaxy Z Flip reaches other territories.
The Galaxy Z Flip is fairly late to the April security update party, at least by Samsung’s standards. The Korean firm more often than not beats Google in releasing the latest security patch for its devices. This month was no different either, with the company beginning the rollout much before Google could detail the contents of the new patch.
Samsung began rolling out this month’s Android security maintenance release (SMR) late last month and has since pushed the new update to a bunch of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The likes of Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Note 20, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, and several mid-range models have all received the update over the past couple of weeks.
Even the 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip also received the latest Android SMR earlier this month. The 5G-less clamshell folding Galaxy smartphone has finally joined the party as well.
After a slight delay, the April 2021 Android security patch is finally rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. If you own this clamshell folding smartphone, be on the lookout for this update in the coming days if you haven’t already received it. The update isn’t likely to bring any new features and/or enhancements apart from this month’s vulnerability fixes. However, there are plenty of those as well.
According to Samsung’s latest security bulletin, the April 2021 Android security patch update contains fixes for as many as 21 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. SVEs are security bugs that are specific to Samsung smartphones. On top of that, the latest update also fixes six critical and more than four dozen high-severity vulnerabilities found on Android OS.
Note that these updates are released in batches over the air (OTA) and may not reach all eligible units simultaneously. You should receive a notification once the OTA update becomes available for your phone. You can also manually search for updates by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
