Samsung is preparing to unveil its next entries in the Galaxy Z foldable lineup in a couple of months from now. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 are both said to arrive sometime in July. The expectation will be that the new models will be bigger and better than their respective predecessors. However, that may not be true for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 as far as the battery department is concerned.
As revealed by the 3C certification in China last month, the upcoming foldable phablet will pack two separate battery units with a combined capacity of somewhere around 4,400mAh. That would be slightly lower than the 4,500mAh battery capacity of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Now, a fresh report suggests the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would not see any improvements in charging speed as well.
The Chinese regulatory agency recently published the specs of the charging adapter for the new phone. As per the listing, the device will come bundled with the EP-TA800 charger, the same one that Samsung supplied with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 last year (via).
This power brick has a maximum output of 25W (9V/2.27A or 11V/2.25A). Samsung also bundles this charger with several other high-end and mid-range smartphones, including the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Note 10 series, and the Galaxy A72. So, despite being touted as the most powerful foldable smartphone to date, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 seemingly won’t bring any significant improvements in the power department.
Of course, Samsung could improve the overall battery life with more power-efficient internals and better software optimizations. But that’s altogether a different thing.
A 25W charging speed for a flagship device may not sound adequate in today’s time when OEMs are starting to offer up to 120W fast charging, but the Galaxy Z Fold 3 certainly boasts plenty of other powerful improvements. Most notably, it will bring S Pen support for the first time in Samsung’s foldable lineup. The device will reportedly get a new Hybrid S Pen. It won’t have a fine tip so that it doesn’t damage the foldable display.
Moreover, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will also reportedly debut Samsung’s Under Display camera UDC) technology. The company has been working on this technology for a while now and it’s seemingly ready with it. Of course, it will be the first foldable smartphone in the world to feature an invisible front camera.
Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed when it plans to unveil its next-gen foldable smartphones. But, as said before, a July launch is being widely reported. It’s now just a matter of time before the Korean firm makes an official announcement regarding this.
