Google is reportedly working on “Voice Shortcuts” for the Assistant as a new way of interacting.

The “Hey Google” has been the traditional and common way for activating Google Assistant. But it seems that Google wants to make some changes to the procedure and make it a bit simpler to interact with its Assistant.

According to XDA Developers, they’ve found a new feature in the Google app’s Settings called Guacamole that apparently allows for adding voice shortcuts for tasks like snoozing an alarm or answering a call. The feature is not yet working, and Google is still working on it.

The purpose of developing such a feature is to allow users to skip saying “Hey Google” for quick tasks. Although it is a favorite word for activating the Assistant, using it for quick tasks is a little wordy. Moreover, bringing support for Voice Shortcuts will pave the way for more customization in the Google Assistant.

The Guacamole is still a null feature, and we don’t know how it works. But Google will likely introduce it at the following Google I/O event on May 18, 2021. So we should keep our eyes on more announcements from Google.

Voice shortcuts will make Google Assistant more convenient

Google developers are still working on Guacamole for Voice Shortcuts, and it has just accidentally rolled out to some users around the world through the latest update. The ultimate goal is to make Assistant more convenient and please users with customized functions.

Of course, Guacamole won’t be a new feature, and Google added a similar feature to Nest Hub in 2019. This feature allowed users to use words like “Stop” for snoozing Google Home and Smart Display alarms. Now, the Voice Shortcuts are going to have a similar function in the Assistant app.

Google Assistant currently has over 500 million users worldwide who are using the app in their daily lives. This is a massive and fantastic achievement for an AI-powered virtual assistant that just launched five years ago.

Moreover, Google is constantly adding new features to the Assistant to make it smarter. Now, it can read web pages aloud and even help you to stay organized.
