Google is getting ready for its developers conference. Google I/O is right around the corner, and the company has released a schedule for it. Before we get down to it, do note that Google I/O will take place May 18-20, and it will be a virtual event.
The company’s keynote will be the first in line, as every year. During it, Google will go over the most important stuff, and then delve in deeper during a ton of smaller sessions.
Google confirmed that it will talk about Android, Google Play, web platform, Machine Learning, Google Assistant, Material Design, Chrome OS, Flutter, Firebase, Google Pay, ARCore, and smart home.
Android 12 will be a huge focus of the keynote, and Google I/O in general. That is not surprising, as it’s the case every year with a new version of Android. Android 12 is bringing some major changes in the design department, so there’s plenty to talk about.
Google confirmed that widgets are getting a new look in Android 12, which is something we knew thanks to Developer Previews we’ve seen thus far. Those developer previews actually shared quite a few information about Android 12 in general.
What’s interesting is that Google refers to “Wear OS by Google” as simply “Wear”. Is it possible that the company will drop the “OS” part from “Wear OS”, and simply refer to it as “Wear” from now on? Well, based on what we’re seeing here, yes.
Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, did confirm yesterday that we can expect some major product announcements at Google I/O. It is even possible that Google will announce the Pixel 5a during the event.
We may be reaching here, but you never know. The device has been leaking for a while now, and it’s extremely similar to the Pixel 4a 5G, so it may happen, we’ll see.
Google may even talk about its upcoming Whitechapel SoC, at least mention it. That processor is expected to fuel the Pixel 6 series later this year.
