Google Photos on the web now has two mobile-inspired features, the Explore tab and the Favorites section. Both of which have been available on mobile since the revamp of that version of the app back in 2020.
It seems as though most people should be able to see these features on the web version of Google Photos right now. Though not all users at this point. Multiple people on our team here have been able to access both Explore and Favorites on the web. But 9To5Google reports that these features on the web aren't rolling to everyone yet. Which means you may have to wait a little while to access them if you use Photos on the web at all.
For the most part, the Explore tab in Google Photos for the web should look the same as it does on the mobile app. With categories that separate out all of your images into their respective sections. Like people, places, and things.
While the Explore tab on the web is inspired by the mobile version, it's not technically in the mobile version. Because on mobile Google calls it Search.
Once you tap on it though, everything really does look the same. With the same categories for every type of image. The only difference really, beside the name of course, is that things aren't visible in a scrolling carousel like they are on mobile. They're all displayed in the same way, but to view every category you need to actually click on the view all button. Whereas on mobile you can scroll through them by swiping left to right.
The Explore tab lets you do more than just sift through organized photos and search for specific images. It also delivers quick access to your activities. Which includes things like your favorites and recently added images.
There's also quick access buttons for creations, which houses things like saved creations, animations, collages, and movies. As well as categories for things like screenshots, selfies, videos, photoscan, and motion photos.
Google Photos has gone through a few notable changes in the past six to twelve months. Including counting against your storage amount in June of this year. If you don't like the sound of paying for more Google Photos storage, switching off of it to an alternative is an easy process.
