Google Pixel 5a renders 4

The Google Pixel 5a 5G is expected to use the same SoC as the Pixel 5, it seems. This information comes from 9to5Google, as the source managed to find some proof of this in the latest Android 12 Developer Preview.

The site reports that the device codenamed “Barbet” was spotted, which is the Pixel 5a 5G. Now, in addition to this codename, the model number “sm7250” is mentioned. That is the part number for the Snapdragon 765G.

Pixel 5a SoC spotted

The Google Pixel 5a 5G will utilize the same SoC as the Pixel 4a 5G & Pixel 5

This more or less confirms that the device will utilize the same SoC as the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. It is quite odd, as the Snapdragon 768G has been released, and many people expected the device to utilize it.

If the Pixel 5a 5G ends up utilizing the Snapdragon 765G, and the Pixel 6 ends up using Google’s very own Whitechapel SoC, the Snapdragon 768G may not be utilized by Google this year at all.

So, the Google Pixel 5a 5G will not only look like the Google Pixel 4a 5G, but it will also use the same SoC, and the same display. On top of everything, chances are it will offer the same camera setup as well, though nothing leaked about that yet.

This handset looks like a re-released Pixel 4a 5G, at the moment

We’re starting to think that the Pixel 5a 5G will be a re-released Pixel 4a 5G, basically. We’re hoping that Google will find a great price tag to attach to the phone.

The Google Pixel 5a 5G will launch later this year, as Google confirmed. It will not become available in Europe, though, as the phone will be exclusive to the US and Japan.

It is reported that the phone will be exclusive to those markets due to the global chip shortage. That’s a shame, but it is what it is. At least the phone won’t be a major improvement over the Pixel 4a 5G.
