The Google Pixel 6 has been tipped to use Google’s very own “Whitechapel” SoC, and a Googler just confirmed that. The company’s employee left a comment online that pretty much confirms what the rumors have been saying.

XDA Developers publication reports that a team of Googlers are attempting to update the SELinux policy of the OsloFeedback app. That is the app responsible for Soli radar gestures on the Pixel 4. They’re doing that via a code change submitted to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Googler basically confirmed that the “Whitechapel” SoC is coming alongside the Pixel 6

The code change itself is nothing to write home about, but one specific comment, well, that’s a different story. A Googler responded with a link that leads to Google’s internal source code repo, which is something XDA Member cstark27 noticed.

This is what was written: “You don’t need coredomain to use binder_use. This one lives fine on P21”. The P21 presumably refers to the “Pixel 21”, which likely consists at least out of the Pixel 6.

He, for sure, is not referring to the Pixel 5a, as that device will be fueled by the same chip as the Pixel 4a 5G / 5. In any case, a specific link was shared, and though it is not available to the public, the URL itself reveals something interesting.

If you take a look at the URL -> “https://source.corp.google.com/android/device/google/gs101-sepolicy/whitechapel/vendor/google/twoshay.te;l=9?q=%22binder_use(%22%20p:android$%20f:gs101-sepolicy”, you’ll notice that it leads to a specific section of a file located in the /android/device/google/gs101-sepolicy/whitechapel branch. The word “whitechapel” is clearly indicated here, while the “gs101” likely refers to the first chip in the custom “Google Silicon” line.

This is the first piece of evidence that rumors are accurate. Google seems to be working on its very own silicon, and it will debut with the Pixel 6, it seems. Things are quite clear at this point.

The company is expected to announce two Pixel 6 phones this year

The Google Pixel 6 lineup is rumored to consist of two phones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 XL. It remains to be seen how accurate that information is, though, of course.

The Google Pixel 6 is coming later this year, and it’s rumored to include a new sensor for the camera. Google has been using the same main camera sensor for its Pixel phones since the Pixel 2 back in 2017.
