You can only have one PSN account active on your PS5 at a time, but you can have multiple user accounts on the same console and switch between them easily. This makes for a convenient way to share the console with family and friends.
Maybe you have kids and you want them all to have their own user profiles. Which you can then use to lock down certain things you don't want them having access to. Or maybe you live with a roommate and want them to have their own profile so you can each enjoy the games you prefer front and center.
Whatever the reasoning, switching to a new user on the PS5 is a pretty quick and simple process. And every PS5 owner should know how to switch to a new user just in case they ever need to. In this short and handy guide we'll walk you through the steps on doing that. So let's get started.
If you're wanting to switch to a new user on the PS5, you'll have to start by creating a new user. Which you can do from the start screen after powering on the PS5.
Assuming you're already on the PS5 home screen and have been playing games, tap the PlayStation button on the DualSense controller. This will bring up the PS5's control center which pops up from the bottom of the screen.
Here you'll see a ton of different icons across the control center. You're looking for the one that has your profile's avatar.
Once you scroll to the avatar icon in the control center, click on it to bring up the menu of options associated with users on the PS5.
After clicking on your avatar in the control center, one of the options towards the bottom should be switch user. This is the option you're looking for. Click on that and you'll be brought to the menu that shows the different user profiles on your PS5.
Yours will be the central one as it's the currently active user profile. Simply hover over the user you want to switch to and your PS5 will change over to that profile.
There are a few reasons why this is a good idea if you don't live alone. Or if you have friends over often that plan to use the console.
As we mentioned above, one big reason is to separate out your preferred games from others. Maybe the games you play often are not the ones that your friends or family members play often. And on the PS5 the games you play most recently always end up as the first games in the list.
Having different user accounts set up makes it so yours are never pushed to the back when a different user access the console and plays something you never play. But another big reason is to separate out your save files.
By having different user accounts, your save files are not tied to the account of the other users. And by switching there shouldn't be any worry about them accidentally being deleted.
If you're still trying to get a hold of a PS5, these are the retailers where you can typically find them when stock is replenished.
