LG has recently confirmed that they will be exiting the smartphone market after years of bringing us new and exciting phones and paving the way for other companies and technology. Now, there were some concerns that LG exiting the market could leave customers in the lurch with regards to updates and support, but LG has since come forward with a statement.

According to LG, they are making a public pledge in which they are essentially promising three years of OS updates. Sounds good, right? But here’s the catch, it seems that this pledge is only for customers who purchased LG’s “premium” smartphones which includes the G series, V series, Velvet series, and the Wing. As for those who might have purchased its other phones, tough luck as LG says that they’ll only provide two years of OS updates to devices like the LG Stylo and K series.

That being said, while this might be good news for LG customers, do note that LG has actually a pretty bad reputation when it comes to updates. They are known for being rather slow in the update game so while they do promise these updates, it’s hard to say if they will be released in a timely manner.

With the company exiting the market and possibly cutting back on resources, it’s hard to imagine what incentive they would have to crank out updates in quickly, but we’ll have to wait and see.
