It has been quite an up-and-down battle for LG over the past few years, with many more down years than up. The company continues to struggle in the smartphone market, as Samsung and even OnePlus continue to push the envelope and attract more customers. With the battle for the flagship smartphone practically decided every year, this has left LG to look to other types of smartphones in an effort to make its mark.
The latest attempt from LG, the LG Rollable, was shown off at CES 2021 and looked to provide all of the benefits of a foldable phone, without as many compromises. This is just the latest in a line of recent devices, along with the LG Wing, that the company has announced and/or released to try and find a niche place in the market.
However, it seems that LG may be pumping the breaks on the release of the LG Rollable, if a new report is to be believed. Coming from Yonhap News, a report suggests that LG has informed its rollable display provider, and others, to put the phone on hold. This is rather surprising when you consider that LG was expected to roll out its Rollable sometime in March of this year. With March 1st looming just a little more than a week from now, it’s safe to assume that LG won’t hit the target announcement date.
LG V60 Review: Striking the perfect balance
LG has already been caught up in the rumor mill lately, as rumors swirl regarding whether LG will end up folding its mobile division altogether. It’s clear that Samsung already has a leg up on the competition with the release of the Z Fold 2, and a Z Fold 3 could be the nail in the coffin for that corner of the market. Especially if the Fold 3 ends up replacing the Galaxy Note line in Samsung’s yearly release strategy.
Only time will tell, but the LG V60 was perhaps one of the most underrated flagships of 2020, and it would be a real shame for the company to call it quits. Although LG has lost its way, here’s to hoping that something can spark a fire and bring LG roaring back.
