Motorola launched the Moto Edge S in China last month as the first smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. Soon after, reports emerged that the handset will arrive in other markets as Moto G100, one of the bunch of unannounced devices confirmed prematurely by Google earlier this week. Leaked press renders of the very same Moto G100 have now confirmed this rebranding.
Dutch news outlet Mobielkopen has shared a bunch of high-quality unwatermarked renders of the upcoming high-end Motorola smartphone revealing it is identical to the Moto Edge S. Everything from the button placement to punch hole cutouts and rear-camera alignment corroborates the Chinese variant. The phone is seemingly coming in the same white and blue color variants outside China as well.
The leaked renders suggest a slightly different hue of the two colors. However, that could also be a result of different lighting conditions. We will need to wait until the official announcement, which is expected later this month.
Since the Moto G100 is a rebranded Moto Edge S, the device shares the latter's internals as well. It sports a 6.7-inch 90Hz LCD screen with a 1080 x 2520 pixels resolution. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 870 SoC which may be paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A 5000mAh battery fuels this phone. It supports 20W fast wired charging through a USB Type-C port.
There's a quad-camera setup at the back. It includes a 64-megapixel primary camera, a 16-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 3D TOF camera. The front-facing cameras include a 16-megapixel primary lens and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens.
The device has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded into the power button, which sits on the right side of the handset, below the volume controls. Interestingly, German publication TechnikNews claims that only the European version of the phone will get a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left side, above the SIM tray. The Chinese variant, i.e. the Moto Edge S, also gets this additional physical button.
To recall, the Moto Edge S comes with a starting price of CNY1,999 (roughly $310) in China. It's unclear how Motorola will price the phone in other markets. It may not come that cheap though.
Motorola has already teased a phone with a Snapdragon 870 SoC. Nils Ahrensmeier of TechnikNews has recently claimed that Motorola will announce the Moto G100 on March 25th. So it's not a very long wait now before the device goes official. We will keep you updated as and when more information emerges.
