Samsung‘s May 2021 Android security patch rollout continues at a rapid pace. It is not even May yet, but the company is already rolling out the latest Android security maintenance release (SMR) to its fourth Galaxy smartphone series. Following updates for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and the Galaxy S20 series earlier this week, the new security update is now rolling out to the Galaxy Note 20 phones.
Both the vanilla Galaxy Note 20 as well as the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G are now receiving the May 2021 Android security patch. The update is currently available for users in Germany. It bears the firmware versions N980FXXU2DUDA and N986BXXU2DUDA for the two devices respectively.
Apart from the latest security patch, the new update also brings improvements to camera performance and Quick Share. These same improvements accompanied the May update for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series as well. Samsung, though, doesn’t go into detail about what exactly has been improved.
Of course, we don’t yet know the contents of the next month’s security patch either. Samsung has made a habit of pushing the latest Android SMR to its Galaxy devices much before Google could publish the new security bulletin. We should get to know the details of the new security patch in the coming days.
The Galaxy Note 20 duo are the latest Samsung smartphones to pick up the May 2021 Android security patch. However, the fun has only begun, as Samsung has several more Galaxy devices pending the new security update. There are some flagships as well as a bunch o lower-cost models in the Galaxy A/M series.
Nonetheless, if you own a Galaxy Note 20 model, be on the lookout for the May security update in the coming days. As said earlier, the new update is currently rolling out to users in Germany. However, it shouldn’t take Samsung much long to expand the rollout to other territories.
That said, it’s pertinent to mention here that updates are released in batches and may not be available for all eligible units simultaneously. You should receive a notification prompting you to download the OTA (over the air) update once it becomes available for your phone.
You can also manually check for updates update from your phone’s Settings app. Scroll down to the Software update menu and tap on the Download and install. If an OTA update is available for your phone, you’ll be prompted to download it on the next screen.
