Microsoft is working on adding dark theme support to its Office suite on Android, xda-developers reports.
Microsoft has been releasing dark theme support to its desktop applications, and now the Office suite apps for Android are in the queue to receive the feature. The time for releasing updates is unknown yet, but it shouldn’t take too long.
The news about bringing the dark theme to Office suite first broke by Alessandro Paluzzi. He is engaged in reverse engineering of mobile applications and shared the story on his Twitter account.
He also shared some screenshots from the app setting that allows users to choose the dark theme. Light and System Default are other themes to choose from. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are the apps that will receive the update.
Microsoft Office suite is not the only one that is going to receive theme-changing support. According to Paluzzi, the Microsoft Office hub will also receive dark theme support. He shared a screenshot of a blank Word document that its background is white, but Microsoft may decide to make it dark to comply with the overall theme.
“Currently, the background of the document is white, but they may decide to make it black before the official release,” Paluzzi noted in the tweet.
Microsoft To-Do, OneDrive, and Outlook have previously received dark mode. Adding dark mode support to the Office suite and Office hub will allow users to use the apps with more ease and comfort.
Adding dark theme support to mobile applications is becoming a trend between companies. Facebook recently added the dark theme to its Lite app, and Google did the same with Gboard. Moreover, Skype received dark theme in 2019.
SwiftKey, which Microsoft recently bought, got an update that matches the app theme with the overall theme of the phone. It seems that Microsoft wants to bring the dark theme to all apps it owns. Those Microsoft apps that haven’t received theme-changing support will likely receive it in the short term.
Google has changed the dark theme mode on Android 12. The new theme is gray instead of being all black. Of course, the gray theme was seen at Android 12 Developer Preview 1, and Google may decide to change it on the final version.
One good thing about the all-black theme is it has an essential role in conserving battery life.
