Along with Samsung and Fitbit, there’s another company out there that is making some pretty awesome smartwatches for Android users. Mobvoi has launched yet another smartwatch, that is now aimed at “sports lovers” with some changes from last year’s iteration.

The TicWatch Pro S is now available and brings a few new features that were originally only available for owners of the TicWatch Pro 3. The Pro S is an updated version of the TicWatch Pro 2020, bringing double the amount of storage, from 4GB to 8GB, and adding IP68 water and dust resistance.

TicWatch Pro S Specs

  • 1.39-inch AMOLED + FSTN Display
  • 400×400 Resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB Storage
  • Google Pay
  • IP68 Water/Dust Resistant
  • 415mAh Battery
  • Battery Life: Up to 30 days
  • MIL Spec 810G
  • Wear OS

When the TicWatch Pro 3 launched late last year, there was much fanfare due to the inclusion of the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset, marking the first (and still only) smartwatch to include the latest Qualcomm processor. The Pro 3 also introduced updated versions of some of TicWatch’s own applications, including TicExercise 3.0, TicSleep 2.0.

Plus, there were new applications brought to the Pro 3 such as TicBreathe to monitor your heart rate and providing breathing exercises, while TicHearing alerts you to whether the noises around you could potentially damage your hearing. All of those updated and new apps are now available on the TicWatch Pro S, which is perfect for those who want to use their smartwatch while working out, but don’t want to worry about getting caught in a rainstorm.

It’s really a head-scratcher

At first glance, you would think that a smartwatch with a four-year-old processor would be priced maybe around $180-$200, just because of the other features included. Since TicWatch is including its unique Dual Display technology, that’s cause enough for a bit of a higher price. But the TicWatch Pro S is priced at $260, which is just $40 cheaper than the TicWatch Pro 3 which features the vastly-superior Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor. In fact, it was just a few days ago that we saw a deal from Amazon that dropped the Pro 3 to just $255, so it’s not outside of the realm of possibility to see a future price drop for Mobvoi’s flagship smartwatch.

That’s not to say that the TicWatch Pro S won’t be a solid option out there, but $260 may be a bit too steep, unless you really don’t want to spend the extra $40. Or maybe you don’t want to grab the Pro 3 because of the size, as the Pro S is slightly smaller than its bigger brother.

Nevertheless, as we continue hoping for a Google smartwatch to launch and re-invigorate Wear OS, TicWatch is doing a pretty darn good job of making use of Google’s wearable OS. If you want to grab the TicWatch Pro S for yourself, hit the button below.
