App Annie, a well-known app market research company, has released a new report, for the first quarter of this year. Based on it, TikTok was the most popular app in Q1 2021, which is not surprising. The company actually highlighted most popular, and top breakout apps for Q1 2021.
TikTok has been striving for a long time now, and it’s being used more than ever. In fact, based on this report, time spent on apps, in general, surged quite a bit. It surged up to 80-percent in selected markets, between Q1 2019 and Q1 2021.
The source says that consumers in nine major markets now spend more than four hours a day in apps. That is considerably higher than it was in the past. To be more accurate, the global average time spent was 4.2 hours a day, up to 30-percent compared to two years ago.
Now, when it comes to top apps, TikTok is leading the pack. If you take a look at the image below this paragraph, you’ll be able to see a more detailed list. TikTok is first, followed by Facebook, and Instagram, two apps from Facebook. Telegram managed to climb to the fourth place, and it’s followed by WhatsApp, another Facebook app.
ZOOM has seen the most noticeable ascension out of all the apps on the list, as it jumped 21 places since Q4 2020. It is not sixth-placed on the list, followed by MX TakaTak and Snapchat. Facebook Messenger is ninth, while CapCut rounds up this list in the tenth place.
Consumers spent the most money on YouTube, while that app is followed by TikTok, Tinder, Disney+, and Tencent Video. In terms of active users, Facebook is still leading the pack, followed by WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Amazon. So, four Facebook apps are leading the pack here.
Another interesting list that App Annie shared shows Top Breakout Apps. That list is considerably different from the top apps one, of course, as you’ll see some less known apps here.
As you can see, MX TakaTak is first on this list. It is followed by Signal Private Messenger, and Telegram. WhatsApp managed to get a lot of negative reactions to its data policy recently, which caused Signal and Telegram to rise quite a bit.
Moj is the fourth app on the list, and is followed by VPN Master. Lists for different regions are also included in the provided image, and are vastly different from global ones. Discovery Plus is leading the race in the US, while Signal is ahead of the pack in the UK, for example. Check out the image for more details.
