Netflix Fast Laughs introduction

If you're looking for fast laughs, Netflix is experimenting with a new way to introduce you to comedy content. In fact, the company took to its official blog today to announce a new feature — fittingly dubbed "Fast Laughs" — to iOS, with plans to release on Android "soon."

What are Fast Laughs from Netflix?

Now, the branding here effectively gives away exactly what this new feature is. Fast Laughs is a short-clip feature from Netflix, which delivers up funny content from across its selection of available content. Regardless of whether that's a series — animated or otherwise — or a movie. Of course, clips from stand-up comedy sessions will be making an appearance here too.

The goal, Netflix says, is to give users something to laugh about. But it also wants to provide an easy way for viewers to both rediscover old favorites and to stumble across new ones in the genre.

To that end, Fast Laughs has been added as a button on the main navigation bar. Tapping on the smiley-face-shaped icon starts a run of clips from across the board. Clips just keep going too, so once one stops, another starts. And from those clips, users can choose to add shows or movies to their watch list. Or to play the entire thing immediately.

Probably shouldn't let your kids watch this

For the time being, iOS users are the only ones who will see the new icon. And that's limited further still to select countries. Android is in the works and should arrive "soon" but there's no timeline in place for that.

Regardless of which platform users choose though, Netflix does point out that this content isn't going to be appropriate for all audiences. That's hardly surprising since some of the best comedy on Netflix is definitely geared towards older audiences. But is something to bear in mind when checking this new feature out.

Now, this does mean that the current plan is to release first on apps only. With luck, the feature will hopefully find its way to other top streaming platforms, so users can catch a quick laugh no matter where they watch. But the company hasn't said anything on the matter for the time being.
