New proof has appeared, claiming that Samsung plans to launch Wear OS smartwatches in the near future.

Tizen has been the primary OS for Samsung watches, and actually the only one for years now. But it seems that the Korean OEM wants to make its way back to Google, back to Wear OS. Samsung did release some watches with Android Wear in the past, but not with Wear OS, since the branding change.

This new proof comes from Max Weinbach, who explored the latest build of the Galaxy Wear app. According to what Weinbach tweeted, Samsung works on the next generation of Galaxy Watches, which could be Watch Active 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 models.

There is also a new plugin codename called "water" that might be the "Samsung wearable/WearOS compatibility layer," and it mentions "fresh" and "wise." These could be the codenames that Samsung uses for its smartwatches using Wear OS.

Moreover, Weinbach has found some information about the size of Samsung's new watches. They might come in 40/41mm and 44/45mm sizes with Bluetooth and LTE variants for each size.

Of course, this is not the first time that sources report about Samsung smartwatches with Wear OS. A month ago, a developer found some clues at the latest kernel source code of the Exynos Samsung Galaxy S20. The codenames at that kernel source were referring to a "WearOS."

All the evidence proves Samsung wants to launch its new smartwatches running Google's Wear OS. Anyway, we need to keep our eyes on the company's announcements and future leaks for more information.

Samsung may not ditch Tizen, though

Launching Wear OS watches doesn't mean Samsung wants to ditch Tizen. Samsung has been working on this OS for years, and Tizen is now at the beginning of its heyday. Moreover, some of the popular Samsung watches are currently running Tizen, and users like it.

We still don't know anything about Samsung's strategy for offering smartwatches with two OS. But it could be a double-edged sword for the company. Giving more choices to the users is good, but it might confuse them. Another possibility is that Samsung may decide to launch its Wear OS watches in selected markets and keep Tizen as its primary OS.

Wear OS has better compatibility with Android devices, and it comes with a lot of amazing features. Also, it has a larger developer community that is working to develop more apps for it. These are compelling reasons to make Samsung return to a Google-made OS after a failed experience with Android Wear.
