Leaked dummy units of the upcoming Huawei P50 seem to confirm that the handsets will be powered by HarmonyOS instead of Android.

We have known for a while that Huawei has been trying to develop its alternative to Android in the form of HarmonyOS. For the most part, Huawei’s past handsets still ran on Android but were lacking key Google services and features, but it seems that with the upcoming Huawei P50, Google and Android are completely out of the picture.
This is according to photos posted on Weibo that are allegedly dummy units of the upcoming handset. As you can see in the photo below, it shows the screen of one of the dummy units and it reads, “Powered by HarmonyOS”. Now, given that these are dummy units they can essentially say or feature anything they want and we won’t know for sure how real they are, so do take it with a grain of salt for now.
The design of the handset, however, seems to corroborate an earlier leaked render of the phone from tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, who has been pretty accurate with his leaks in the past. The dummy units show a rather interesting quad camera design on the back of the phone, which we can’t say we’re a fan of, but to be fair as long as it shoots great photos we can’t really complain.
We know that Huawei does eventually plan to transition its phones to HarmonyOS, and this photo seems to be in line with rumors from earlier this year that said that the P50 could be the first phone to run it out of the box, although it has also been suggested that depending on the region, Huawei could also offer an Android variant.
