For the past few years, Oppo has focused most of its efforts on its Find X lineup to ensure that its flagship smartphones delivered the best photography experience possible. Oppo may be a bit behind the competition on that front, but they’re still among the best.
By comparison, the Oppo Reno devices have been neglected, getting the usual “let’s just add more cheap cameras to the back of the phone” spec bump we’ve seen other manufacturers do for their mid-range devices with little effort put into delivering better photo for those who pay for the phones. On paper, that’s where the Oppo Reno 5 Pro sits, sporting a 64MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera, 2MP depth sensors and 8MP ultrawide camera on the back. They even throw in a 32MP sensor for the selfie camera.
While the average consumer may be enticed by all those numbers, the results are the only thing that truly matters. To put the Oppo Reno 5 Pro to the test, we capture more than 100 photos and videos with the device in a variety of different lighting conditions. In the past, we haven’t been too impressed by Oppo’s Reno smartphones, but this time around it seems like the camera engineers made more of an effort to improve the images that this phone delivers.
The Reno 5 Pro nails the shots when lighting conditions are good, but it performs admirably in less than ideal lighting as well. Dynamic range improved significantly, reducing the number of times highlights are completely blown out, something that was quite noticeable last time around.
Take a look at the Oppo Reno 5 Pro camera test video and gallery below to see how the cameras on the phone perform.
