OnePlus has released a new update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T handsets, it’s marked as OxygenOS 10.3.9. This update boosts security on the devices, while it also brings some other improvements.

Truth be said, the changelog for this update is not that big, there are only a couple of entries. This is far from being a major update. That being said, the update is already rolling out OTA (Over-the-Air).

As it goes with every update provided by the company, this one is rolling out in stages. That means that some of you probably already received it, while others will have to wait a bit.

OxygenOS 10.3.9 brings a new security patch to the OnePlus 6 & 6T

In regards to exact changes, well, you’ll get a new Android security patch with this update. OnePlus included a security patch for February 2021. It also updated the GMS package to December 2020.

On top of that, the update will fix a number of known issues that haven’t been named, and improve system stability as a whole. It seems like OnePlus spotted a number of bugs that needed fixing.

That is basically it as far as the changelog is considered. Do note that using a VPN won’t help you install this update. The rollout is not region-based, as it was in the past, as all regions are getting it at the same time. Therefore, you’ll have to wait.

If, for some reason, you cannot wait, and want to install this update manually, the files are available. XDA Developers shared the links, in case you’re interested in a manual install.

This update is based on Android 10

It is worth noting that this update is based on Android 10, as were a number of previous updates. Android 11 is still not available for the OnePlus 6 and 6T series devices.

Both the OnePlus 6 and 6T are getting the same version of the update, OxygenOS 10.3.9. Both software offerings should be extremely similar, if not identical. Make sure to download the right build if you’re installing manually, though, of course.
