According to Android Police, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are now getting the OxygenOS 11.0.5.5 update. All updates are usually really exciting, but it is even better when those updates fix existing problems. When OnePlus first started rolling out Android 11 updates there were some problems with bugs.

The OnePlus 7T series was plagued by bugs that affected the camera with constant crashes. Unfortunately, other OnePlus devices haven’t been exempted from this either. Thankfully, though OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are receiving an update to solve many of their bugs.

One of the bugs was one that caused the expanded screenshot to stop working. Another bug that has been fixed is one that causes the alarm clock to not ring when it is scheduled on workdays. Needless to say that last bug can really hurt someone’s life if their smartphone is their only alarm clock.

However, it is not just bug fixes that have been packaged into this update. There are fixes that bring optimizations to the emergency icon’s position on the clock screen. Navigation gestures have also gotten their sensitivity tweaked to work better while charging.

Also, the new update has the March 2021 security update. So in addition to bug fixes, OnePlus 8 users get the latest security update as well. The OnePlus 7 series is unfortunately not currently rocking the latest March 2021 security update.

As with a lot of smartphone updates, this is a staged rollout. So be patient and you will soon see the update prompt appear for you. Of course, since Android gives users a lot of control you can also try to force the update manually.

For the impatient users out there you can use OnePlus’s Oxygen Updater tool to download the OTA. You can also go to Settings > System update to try and force the OTA. It is honestly great to see a company continuing to support older devices.

Especially after the company has just launched its next big smartphone. OnePlus is still prospering from the launch of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro last week. With its focus on a better camera experience, many users are rightfully excited.

But for those still rocking last year’s OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro they too now have reason to get excited. Consumers receiving bug fixes and security updates ensure they can use their devices for longer. Making sure users’ devices will survive for two or three years is a great thing to do because not all companies do this.
