Both the Google Pixel 5 & 4a 5G now have support for 5G with Dual SIM Dual Standby. This new feature is actually a part of the March Feature Drop, a new update that arrived to devices quite recently.

Both the Pixel 5 & 4a 5G now support 5G with Dual SIM Dual Standby

It was not mentioned initially, which is why we’re reporting on it separately. Now, some of you may wonder how is this even possible considering that the Pixel 5 & 4a 5G have only one physical SIM card slot. Well, there’s the eSIM factor.

You can simultaneously add and use an eSIM with Dual SIM Dual Standby, thus utilizing both a physical card, and an eSIM. This has been the case from launch, but not for 5G connectivity, 4G was supported, though.

Those of you who installed Android 12 Developer Preview 1 also gained 5G with dual SIM dual standby support. Well, it’s not available on Android 11 as well, for those two phones, as long as you install the latest update.

That update started rolling out quite recently, but chances are most of you already got it. The Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G are the only two phones from the company that support 5G connectivity.

Google still did not officially confirm the availability of this feature

Google still did not confirm this feature on its end. It still did not update its support document on the matter. Quite a few reports surfaced claiming that the feature is live, though, as people started using the functionality.

If you simply install two SIM cards, 5G will work, and that will be visible in the status bar. You won’t have to disable one of the two cards in Settings, which is something you had to do thus far.

When it comes to 4G support for dual SIM dual standby functionality, it has been a part of the Pixel lineup since 2019. It came to life with the Pixel 3a, in case you’re wondering.
