Google may be readying a new entertainment app called “Google Entertainment Space”. Last month, we talked about that very same app, but under its codename “Google Ohana”.
Last month, a source from Chile shared some information about the app, and also provided some screenshots. We’ve never seen that source provide any similar info, so we told you to take it with a grain of salt.
Well, this new information comes from the very same source, and once again, do keep in mind that this is just rumored info. This time around, the source shared far less information. He simply wanted us to know that the app will be called ‘Google Entertainment Space”, not “Google Ohana”.
This application is supposed to become Google’s very own entertainment hub. It is supposed to be home for the whole suite of Google apps. This app is expected to take the place of Google Discover, according to the source, at least on Android Go devices.
This application is tipped to launch this year. We don’t know when exactly, but there you go. Considering that ‘Android Go’ was mentioned, it’s possible it will be focused on budget smartphones. That would also explain why the information surfaced in Chile.
In the screenshots provided last month, you can clearly see Google Play Games and Google Books included. Google Play Movies will probably be a part of this app, but we’re not sure about apps.
In those screenshots, “Google Ohana” branding was visible. Google either changed its mind along the way, or it used that name just as a codename, despite the fact it was used inside the app itself.
We can only guess at this point, we have to wait for more information on the matter. It is, however, possible that this app will be exclusive to budget phones with Android Go. If it is aimed to replace Google Discover only on such devices, it makes sense.
