Android Authority has reported that Samsung has introduced its new tech for its camera sensors. Samsung’s ISOCELL 2.0 technology is the second generation of its ISOCELL tech. This technology sees barriers placed between neighboring photo-sites/pixels in order to reduce color cross-talk and improve lighter gathering capabilities.

Samsung’s recent sensors come with ISOCELL Plus technology. This ISOCELL Plus is different from the standard ISOCELL technology in that it uses a “new material” instead of metal. Metal has a tendency to absorb and reflect light. As a result, image quality can be affected negatively.

The company has now introduced the ISOCELL 2.0 technology to improve things again. The ISOCELL 2.0 sees the “lower portion of the barrier” between pixels being replaced with more reflective material as well.

This information comes from the official video Samsung posted to its YouTube channel. This new tech will enhance light sensitivity and increase color fidelity according to the video. This goal will be achieved by the new reflective material which will “minimize optical loss and improve light sensitivity for more vivid pictures with reduced noise”.

ISOCELL 2.0 will take camera quality to the next level

The video continues by saying that ISOCELL 2.0 “empowers even smaller pixels to absorb more light”. Samsung’s ISOCELL technology has given Samsung’s smartphones the ability to take and produce some truly amazing photos and videos.

Samsung’s flagship smartphones have been at the top of the pack when it comes to camera quality. Samsung's flagships usually duke it out with heavyweights Google, Apple, and Huawei for camera supremacy.

The video hints at the possibility of a future with higher resolution smartphone sensors. Samsung currently offers a powerful 108MP mobile camera sensor which was first added to their Galaxy S20 Ultra Plus. The Galaxy S21 Ultra continues this trend as well.

However, Samsung has pointed out that its long-term goal will be to create camera sensors with a resolution equal to the human eye. The human eye’s resolution is in the 500MP to 600MP range. If Samsung can produce sensors with this type of quality their phone cameras will be amazing.

Unfortunately, we are not at the 500MP-600MP level just yet. But, the new ISOCELL 2.0 tech should be seen in smartphones soon. Samsung mentioned before that several 0.7-micron pixel sensors announced in late 2020 will offer the tech.

Smartphone cameras have been improving a lot over the past few years. These cameras have become so good that they are now the primary shooter for some photographers. It seems like smartphone camera tech evolution will not slow down anytime soon.
