The Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 is now official in Korea. Samsung and SK Telecom have partnered up to introduce this smartphone. The phone is quite interesting because chances are it will be rebranded to the Galaxy A82 for markets outside of Korea.

There’s a really good chance that will happen, so let’s take a look at what this phone has to offer, shall we. Do note that this is a rather odd launch, as SK Telecom only showed the front side of the phone.

The Galaxy Quantum 2 comes with thin bezels, and flat display

The Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 features a flat display, along with really thin bezels. A display camera hole is included here, and it’s centered near the top of the phone. All the physical buttons sit on the right-hand side of the phone.

Having said that, the phone features a 6.7-inch fullHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display. That display offers a 120Hz refresh rate, and the fingerprint scanner is placed under it.

The Snapdragon 855+ fuels the device

The Snapdragon 855+ fuels this smartphone. That’s a two-year-old processor which was Qualcomm’s flagship SoC back then. It is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable internal storage.

Android 11 comes pre-installed on this smartphone, with Samsung’s UI on top of it. A 64-megapixel camera leads the pack on the back of the phone, and is partnered with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide unit, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.

The phone does support 5G, and it comes with a Type-C USB port at the bottom. It is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. A 15W charger is also a part of the package.

The cryptography chip makes this phone stand out

The thing that makes this phone stand out is a cryptography chip inside it. It makes it extremely difficult to hack. We’re looking at a 2.5×2.5mm QRNG (Quantum Random Number Generator) chip, which is developed by ID Quantique.

That chip generates random numbers by creating noise via an LED and capturing it via a CMOS sensor. This chip works with Shinhan Bank and Standard Chartered Bank Korea apps. It also works with various other services such as 11Street, T World, SK Pay, PASS, and T Membership. It will also worth with Samsung’s own credit card in the future.

The Galaxy A82 will likely launch without the cryptography chip

Now, that cryptography chip likely won’t be a part of the Galaxy A82. There’s a good chance Samsung will use this design, and most of its internals for the Galaxy A82. That device is also expected to launch soon, so stay tuned for that.

The Galaxy Quantum 2 will become available to purchase on April 23. It is already available to pre-order in South Korea.
