Samsung's next pair of truly wireless (TWS) earbuds may be called Galaxy Buds 2 and they are seemingly already in development. The evidence comes from an official Samsung app – the Galaxy Wearable app, which is the hub for all of the company's wearable devices. A teardown of the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable APK has revealed references to the unannounced Galaxy Buds 2.

According to the folks over at Android Police who performed the teardown, Samsung is internally referring to its upcoming TWS offering as "berry". The new device has been added to the "rules" file within the APK, with the name "Galaxy Buds2" and wearable type "earbud". The code strings reveal that the device supports multi-connection and can connect to non-Samsung devices as well, including tablets. Nothing really surprising here.

The APK does not contain any other reference to the Galaxy Buds 2, or "berry". However, since the file also contains individual references to all of Samsung's recent TWS buds – the Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Buds+, and Galaxy Buds Pro – this device is seemingly a distinct product in development. Expect to hear more about it in the coming months. The actual plugin APK for the device should also arrive in days building up to launch, revealing more information.

Samsung is seemingly working on Galaxy Buds 2

Samsung launched two TWS earbuds last year – the Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Buds Live. The former arrived alongside the Galaxy S20 series in February while the latter came alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series in August. The company then followed it up with the Galaxy Buds Pro earlier this year.

Launched alongside the Galaxy S21 series, the Galaxy Buds Pro is Samsung's best earbuds offering yet. The company is now seemingly preparing to bring one more TWS audio product to the market in the coming months.

The upcoming Galaxy Buds 2 will likely succeed the Galaxy Buds+ in Samsung's expansive lineup of wireless earbuds. The latter is aging and the company would be wanting to replace it with a more competitive product. Not to mention, the latest Galaxy Buds Pro is a premium offering and, as you'd expect, a little costlier as well. The Galaxy Buds 2 may arrive as an affordable alternative to it.

Unfortunately, there's no word yet on when Samsung may unveil the new earbuds. The company isn't launching a Galaxy Note phone this year but may hold an Unpacked event for the Galaxy S21 FE, or maybe even a foldable, in August. The Galaxy Buds 2 could accompany these devices.

Samsung is also rumored to be working on a new Galaxy Watch, which could arrive sometime in Q2 2021. So perhaps the company will unveil the new earbuds alongside it. We will need to wait and see how things develop in the coming months.
