It seems like lawsuits are hitting a lot of big-name companies lately. Now, Samsung is in trouble. Thanks to some Galaxy S20 broken camera glass cases, Hagens Berman Law firm is suing Samsung. According to their website, Samsung has ignored a defect in the Galaxy S20 phones that sees the camera glass breaking.
The firm says that users could make back any losses that have come from this issue. They have a form that you can fill out on their website if you are an affected user. The case is still active and has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. It was filed today April 27, 2021.
The complaint states that users of the Galaxy S20 family of phones are reporting “a significant rate of rear-facing camera glass breaking.” Due to this, the company believes Samsung is “knowingly ignoring the issue.” If you have had your phone affected by this and came out of pocket to pay for repairs you may be able to get some money back.
The complaint covers all of the devices in the Galaxy S20 family. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, Galaxy S20+ 5G, Galaxy S20 5G, Galaxy S20 Ultra/LTE, Galaxy S20 FE, and the Galaxy S20 FE 5G.
The issue has been seen in online forums, articles, and complaints. This is a pretty big problem. The Galaxy S20 devices are not exactly cheap. When they first launched they started at around $1,000. That is just for the base Galaxy S20. It only gets more expensive from there.
The really crappy part is that it seems the glass is breaking due to a design flaw, and not damage. Samsung according to the complaint says that the problem stems from internal pressure “…buildup underneath the glass and not customers banging it against something.”
Again, this is quite unfortunate especially for a device that costs so much money. One user even reported that it “Happened on the second day, when it was in my bag on a table in the hospital. Hadn’t dropped or touched it, and it was in an otter defender case since I opened it.”
Another user reports that the crack happened while in their pocket. It is pretty crappy to have a $1000+ device that breaks from a design defect. It makes sense that defects can happen. But, the Galaxy S20 came out last year. So, for it to continue to happen without any resolution is pretty bad. Check out an image of one of the damaged devices below.
