SamMobile is giving the world some good news in regards to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2. According to the report, an official IP rating for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 will be coming to the devices. This is great news as the question of durability for foldable devices is still a concern.

Samsung gave the Galaxy Z Flip the company’s first-ever Ultra-Thin Glass foldable display. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 features a UTG panel and a better hinge. However, neither of these futuristic devices has an official IP rating. Thankfully, that will change this year.

IP or Ingress Protection for those who do not know is given to the build of an electrical device. It indicates how it can resist debris and liquid. IP67 means these devices can offer full protection against dust and other foreign particles. Devices with this rating can also be immersed in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter (3 ft).

Now SamMobile is getting news that both the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 will have an IP rating. At the moment it is not known what ratings they will get. Unfortunately, it may not match the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s IP68 rating. However, any type of IP Rating for a foldable is noteworthy.

IP rating for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 will make the devices more durable

Foldables have been questioned about their durability since they hit the scene. This makes sense because it is hard to give an IP rating to something that folds, has gaps, and different openings. Bringing an IP rating to devices like this shows that Samsung is making big moves in their manufacturing process.

Samsung has been a big innovator in smartphone build for years. As a result, this development is not a major surprise. With these foldable devices costing so much money, upwards of $2,000, this new feature will be very welcome.

The rumored IP rating will be joining the Ultra-Thin Glass currently on Samsung’s foldable devices making them more durable. This should mean that users will be able to use them for many years without fear of breaking them easily.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 are due to launch later this year. Rumors suggest that the new foldable devices will get a July launch. These will be the only two Samsung brings to market despite rumors of four being on the way.

Either way, Samsung makes some of the best smartphones on the market. Their foldable devices continue this trend, so whatever Samsung brings the world later this year will be solid devices.
