While we await the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event to see if Samsung reveals any teasers regarding the rumored Z Fold 3 and Z Flip, there’s another foldable device that could be making its debut as early as next year. According to GizmoChina and Yogesh, Samsung is currently working on a new tri-folding tablet dubbed the Galaxy Z Fold Tab. Original plans were for this device to launch in 2021, probably alongside the refresh foldable smartphone line. However, Yogesh has revealed that this is no longer the case, although Samsung may tease the Z Fold Tab at the foldable Unpacked.
So other than a display that folds over three times, what else should we expect to see? According to this new series of rumors is that the device will support a “hybrid S Pen”, which is seemingly not the same as the Samsung S Pen Pro that has yet to be released. According to Yogesh, this new S Pen will make its debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 but we aren’t exactly sure what features will be included other than the fact that it’s a Bluetooth stylus.
As for the folding display, it seems that this Z Fold Tab will be making use of the same glass that will also make its debut with the Z Fold 3. Samsung is reportedly using the upcoming foldable phone as a “testbed” for the tablet before bringing it to market. We don’t have any other information in regards to what the Z Fold Tab may provide in the specifications department.
However, seeing and hearing more information about the R&D Samsung is putting into the foldable market, the company clearly sees that there is enough interest to keep developing new options. If we do indeed see the Galaxy Z Fold Tab in 2022, this would provide three different foldable devices for three different categories. The Z Fold 3 will likely be the flagship of this new market segment, while the Z Flip 2 will offer an alternative design and likely a lower price, while the Z Fold Tab would bring something truly-different to the market.
We’ve endured a few years of boring cookie-cutter designs, and now Samsung is pushing the limits with its foldables and I’m here for it.
