The Galaxy XCover 5 is finally official, as Samsung announced it via its official website. It seems like the leaks we’ve shared thus far were quite accurate, as the company just confirmed what was said yesterday.
This is definitely not the prettiest smartphone around. That’s not surprising considering that it’s a rugged phone. Its bezels are quite thick, though that was to be expected. You’ll notice that its corners are reinforced, just in case you drop it.
The phone includes a single camera on the back, and one on the back as well. The company’s branding is present on the back, though it’s quite subtle. The volume up, down, and power / lock keys are located on the right.
This smartphone also comes with improved touch sensitivity, so that you can use it with gloves. On top of that, it offers a replaceable battery, which is not something we see often these days.
It also has an extra button on the left called the ‘XCover Key’. That is a customizable button, as you can set it to launch an LED flashlight, camera, or any other app that you want, pretty much. It can be your emergency button as well.
The Galaxy XCover 5 also allows you to integrated the walkie-talkie function, if you need it. The push-to-talk function allows you to stay in touch throughout the day, with a simple push of a button.
The Galaxy XCover 5 features a 5.3-inch HD+ TFT display. It is fueled by the Samsung Exynos 850 SoC, while it includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.
The phone comes with a 3,000mAh battery, which is removable, and it supports 15W fast wired charging. Android 11 comes pre-installed on the phone, along with Samsung’s custom UI, of course.
Facial scanning is supported, and the phone will do it through its front-facing camera. Speaking of cameras, a 16-megapixel one is included on the front (f/1.8 aperture). A 5-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture) can be found on the front.
This phone comes in both single SIM and dual SIM variants, depending on the market. It is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, while it also comes with MIL-STD-810H certification for ruggedness.
The device measures 147.1 x 71.6 x 9.2mm, while Samsung did not officially announce how much the device weighs. The device will become available this month. It will become available in select markets in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Samsung did say that additional markets will be announced, though.
