Sony will allegedly announce the world’s first 1-inch mobile camera sensor soon, in form of the IMX800. This information comes from a well-known tipster called ‘Teme’ aka RODENT950. He shared the information via Twitter.
He also shared the probable timeframe for the launch of it. According to the tipster, the Sony IMX800 camera sensor is coming in April. We still do not know the exact launch date, though.
He did, however, add that the Huawei P50 series will probably feature this sensor. The base Huawei P50 is allegedly coming with three cameras, while the P50 Pro+ will include five cameras.
The base model, the Huawei P50, is said to feature Sony’s new sensor for its main camera. On top of that, it will include dedicated telephoto and ultra-wide cameras.
The Huawei P50 Pro is said to replace the telephoto camera with a periscope camera. So, it will have the main unit (Sony IMX800), a periscope camera, and an ultra-wide camera, based on the provided information.
The Huawei P50 Pro+, on the other hand, is said to couple the Sony IMX800 sensor with four additional units. An ultra-wide camera will also be included, in addition to dedicated telephoto and periscope cameras. On top of that, a ToF (Time-of-Flight) camera will also be included.
The tipster also said that Huawei intends to stick to a 50-megapixel lens with an RYYB filter, it will couple it with this new sensor. Omnidirectional PDAF for autofocus will probably make a comeback as well.
The Huawei P40 series was announced in March last year. Well, if the Huawei P50 series will include the Sony IMX800, and the sensor will become official in April, the Huawei P50 series can’t exactly arrive in March.
So, if all of this is accurate, both the Huawei P50 series and the Sony IMX800 will debut in April. It will be interesting to see this new sensor in action, that’s for sure.
