Engadget is reporting that Spotify’s improved podcast charts will give podcasts a fighting chance. Spotify’s “Top Episodes” ranking will now look at individual numbers for episodes rather than just the overall podcast in general. As a result, creators have the chance to get their content in front of more listeners.

This helps because if a smaller creator has a ton of listens on one episode of their podcast, that one has the potential to still be seen. In addition to this one episode gaining more traction, it can help the overall podcast as a whole as well.

Spotify has also launched a web experience for the charts. The new web experience allows subscribers to view them without having to launch the app on their smartphones. Before this, users had to go to Browse > Podcasts > Podcast Charts in the app to view this information. Now that it has its own website users will be able to view the carts on their phones, tablets, or computer.

Spotify’s “Top Episodes” ranking will help creators get discovered more

Spotify is also improving its Top Podcasts rankings as well. The streaming service will take the show’s total followers into account. When this was launched it only paid attention to the recent listener numbers to determine the popular podcasts.

Now, Spotify is saying that by using the new metric it is “more realistic for fast-rising new shows to pierce the bubble.”

Introducing these changes gives creators the ability to reach more of an audience. Spotify also gains from this as well. The company will offer data for podcasts which in this field is good. There is little available data in the podcast field, so Spotify has an advantage over other platforms now.

The new changes will allow the chart to reach new shows and introduce fresh new content. In addition, podcasts which are catching on like wildfire will be able to get noticed easier. Listeners will also benefit from this as well.

Listeners now will have more content to discover that will keep them entertained. Spotify has a lot in store for the platform. The company has been focused on making the podcast experience more enjoyable. This makes sense because podcasts are quickly growing and becoming more and more prevalent in society.

On top of this Spotify, has its Clubhouse competitor in the works as well. The new live audio competitor from Spotify will also allow for the recording of users’ live audio sessions which may be able to be used as podcast episodes. It seems as if Spotify is getting serious about podcasts.
