Samsung Galaxy S21 FE render leak 1

The Galaxy S21 FE (model number EB-BG990ABY) is hitting the headlines hard with leaks and rumors. News about the battery capacity has just arrived from Galaxy Club. According to them, we will be seeing a downgrade in the battery department compared to the Galaxy S20 FE.

The Galaxy S21 FE’s Battery will see a slight down-size

Last year, the Galaxy S20 FE was given a large 4800 mAh battery. This year, we expected the same capacity (if not a bit more), only to be let down. The Galaxy S21 FE’s battery was rated for 4370 mAh, which Samsung advertises as 4500 mAh. That’s a minor decrease of 6.25%.

In all honesty, that’s not a giant downgrade- it’s not like the phone’s going to be shipping with a 3000 mAh battery or anything like that. It’s still odd when companies decrease the battery capacity of their phones in a year-to-year iteration. There are usually software and hardware optimizations that help balance out the cut in battery capacity- but sometimes, that’s not enough. Hopefully, we’ll see better, or at least comparable, battery life in the Galaxy S21 FE.

The Galaxy S21 FE will have a similar design to the Galaxy S21/Ultra

The design for the S21 FE will look very familiar. Since it’s in the same familiy as the S21 and S21 Ultra, it’s no shocker that it shares the design language. Leaked renders recently surfaced, showing what the phone will look like. It adopted the unique camera bump aesthetic. It appears to melt into the actual frame of the phone. There’s no word on whether the frame will be made of metal or plastic- chances are that it’s plastic.

There’s a triple camera setup with a flash right next to the camera package. We’re not sure about the specs for the rear cameras, but we’re expecting a main sensor, and at least one telephoto sensor. The back of the phone is bare except for the Samsung logo on the bottom. Since there’s no fingerprint scanner on the back, we know that there’s an in-display fingerprint scanner on the front.

Speaking of the front, the Galaxy S21 FE will have a 6.4 inch display with a punchhole up top in the center. The front facing camera will be a 32 MP sensor, which should be good for taking decent selfies.

We’re still in the dark about specifications like the processor. Samsung has been getting flack lately for the lacking performance of its most recent Exynos chip. Last year’s Galaxy S20 FE 5G ran the Snapdragon 865 5G SoC. Samsung might stick with Qualcomm’s silicon this year, but that’s not for certain.

Details like price and availability are still unknown. Last year’s Galaxy S20 FE launched at a price of $699 MSRP. Since the Galaxy S21 Ultra is well above $1000, an asking price of $699 wouldn’t be too bad for the Galaxy S21 FE.
