3rd Gen Alexa Voice Remote

If you use a Fire TV, and you watch Netflix, you may want to pick up the new Alexa Voice Remote. Today Amazon started pre-orders for the upcoming remote for its Fire TV devices.

Which is the third generation of the product. The remote itself won't actually be available officially until April 14. But if you're eager to get your hands on one as soon as they're released, you can pay for it well before the drop. In which case it would probably show up the day of or the day after it launches.

So why would you want this new version of the remote? Especially if you already have one? Simple. Easy access to streaming service buttons. More colorful buttons at that.

The new Alexa Voice Remote has dedicated buttons for Netflix and more

Not everyone is a fan of these buttons. It seems. And that's understandable if you just simply never use them. At that point they're nothing more than extra buttons for you to stare at and potentially press on accident.

But if you subscribe to any of the streaming services these buttons are for, then why not use them? It's much easier. Not only is it more convenient, it's faster. It's quite honestly a win-win situation for anyone that subscribes.

In addition to a dedicated Netflix button, the remote also has dedicated buttons for Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+. Now you have the most direct path to all those episodes of Falcon And The Winter Soldier that will be popping up every Friday.

Speaking of which, episode 2 comes out this Friday. Don't miss out.

It's not compatible with all Fire TV devices

While this will work for most Fire TV devices, it won't be compatible with all of them. According to Amazon it does not work with Fire TV 1st or 2nd Gen, Fire TV Stick 1st Gen, or Fire TV Edition smart TVs.

If you access Fire TV through any of those devices, you will need to use the 1st or 2nd Gen versions of the remote. The new remote does however work with every other Fire TV device.

Including the Fire TV Stick Lite and Fire TV Stick 4K. The remote retails for $29.99, and it has all the buttons of the older remotes. The Alexa button now even has the familiar light blue color and Alexa logo to better indicate what the button does. Which is likely Amazon's reason for the change.
