As a developer preview, Android 12 DP3 is mostly developer-facing, but there are still some user-facing features present, like the updated screenshot editor. Which as of this preview has new options for playing around with those screenshots you just took.

The screenshot editor has gotten exponentially better over the years but Android 12 brings it to yet another level with extra options. Things like additional fonts, a new animation and more. Since this is a developer preview, it’s worth keeping in mind that things can always change.

Meaning Google could either add even more changes in the editor or take them away before the final release of the software. What’s more likely though is that these changes will be the only ones and Google will neither add more or remove anything.

The Android 12 screenshot editor adds new fonts

If you’ve ever messed around with the screenshot editor before, you may have noticed that the markup tool has a font option so you can add text to your screenshots. In Android 11 you can’t access these options directly from the screenshot edit button just after you’ve taken it. But instead have to go to the screenshot in Google Photos and then tap the edit button. Where it should pop up.

However there is only one font option. Google’s Roboto font. But with the latest Android 12 developer preview, Google added four more font choices for users. Including a font that looks like letters from a typewriter. There’s also bubble-style font, a cursive handwriting font, and then bold & italic font as well.

Giving you more options to personalize your screenshots with fun new tweaks.

Could Google add more fonts in the future?

Sure, it could. But that doesn’t mean that it will. If it finds that the feature is popular enough and people ask for more font options, then there’s a good chance it could always add to the editor by giving users even more options.

But there’s nothing to suggest that it will and it’s not a very large feature. So Google wouldn’t necessarily advertise that new stuff like this is being added in an official blog post. If more fonts or other editing options are added before the final release of Android 12, they will no doubt surface.

Android 12 DP3 also added a new 4×4 app grid with smaller icons than the original 4×4 grid, and it reworked some of the battery and storage UI.
