One of the big benefits of the PS5 is the ability to run games at 120 fps. Allowing for buttery smooth gameplay and stunning visuals with little to no stutter.

You won’t get 120 fps from all PS5 games that are available, but you will get it for more than a few titles. And the list is always going to be growing as more games are released for the console. Some developers will also be updating their games to include a PS5 patch. And some of these updates may include support for higher resolution visuals and higher frame rates.

Not all of those updated games will support up to 120 fps (some may only support up to 60fps). But some undoubtedly will. As such, you’ll want to keep an eye out for titles that are going to be receiving those improvements. To make things easier for you, we’ll be keeping this post updated as more games are discovered that include support for 120 fps.

PS5 Games That Support 120 FPS

The list is somewhat small for now, but it’s still mighty. As there are some real heavy hitters that support the faster frame rates. Whether you’re looking to race fast cars through detailed tracks or shoot aliens in the face, there’s a little something for everyone.

Keep in mind though that there is a cost to playing games with the faster frame rate. And that’s the graphics. While the PS5 does support 4K visuals (the console is capable of supporting up to 8K), you won’t be able to run games in 4K and at 120 fps. You’ll have to choose which attribute you want to play with more.

You can however switch back and forth. As developers are generally working this into the settings menu and letting players pick how they want the game to be displayed.

Shooters

Shooters include a wide array of different games that fit into the genre. Some are first-person, some are third-person, and some fall into their own sub-genre called looter shooters. Like Destiny 2 in the video above.

But they’re all ultimately in the shooter genre and feature a few similarities. Usually fast-paced combat and (hopefully) a large collection of weaponry. Games like Destiny 2 are a shooter but with lots of RPG influences. Whereas games like Call Of Duty are more what you would expect from a shooter game.

Which is to say first-person combat, and a heavy focus on multiplayer with varied match types or game modes. As games like these popularized the shooter genre.

Action-Adventure

Action-adventure is another genre that casts a pretty wide net in terms of gameplay. And within it you’ll find plenty of sub-genres. Like hack and slash titles.

If you want fast paced action combat, these are the games you want to look into. And although it’s the only PS5 game that supports 120fps right now, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition may just be the best action-adventure game to showcase the beauty of a faster frame rate.

Every sword stroke, every dodge, every special ability shown on screen in one fluid motion after another. If you want to see how much of a difference the 120fps support makes, play this game on a PS4 then play the PS5 version. It won’t be hard to spot.

Role-Playing (RPG)

Sadly there aren’t many RPG titles that support the 120fps yet. But then again none of the genres are really that stacked. For now you have three games in the RPG genre that support better frames. This includes Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom, which is a lot more like retro RPG titles, then you have Nioh Remastered and Nioh 2 Remastered. Which are upgraded versions of the original games with the improved graphics and faster frame rates. These are action-role playing games and follow along the same lines as Demon’s Souls.

In the future, this list should fill out with even more titles. And will hopefully include upcoming games like Final Fantasy XVI.

Racing

Racing games are another really good way to showcase the 120fps. Eventually this list may include titles like Sony’s own Gran Turismo franchise. It does have one coming for PS5 after all. For now though, your options are DIRT 5, and WRC 9. Though don’t be surprised if some of the newer racing titles from the end of the PS4’s lifecycle are updated to include the faster frame rates as well.

Sports

Sports fanatics will only have two (technically one since they come together) games to dive into with the 120fps support. And this includes the remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2.

The game has been fully updated with much better graphics and some new content, and of course the support for much faster frame rates. These two games will look vastly different from what players may remember. And considering both of them originally released more than two decades ago, that shouldn’t be surprising.

Why You Want To Play PS5 Games With 120 FPS Support

This might seem like an obvious question to have but there are definitely going to be people that need or want the answer.

And the simplest reason why you want to play games with the faster frame rate is because it’ll look better. Or perhaps more accurately the game will feel better. Perhaps a bit of both. Visually, the faster frame rate isn’t going to make things look higher resolution.

But gameplay will be much more smooth and that is a big deal in how the game looks. Especially in titles where there’s a lot of action. If you’ve never experienced a game in 120 fps before, you’re in for a treat the first time you do. And believe me, it’ll be hard to go back once you’ve seen how good things can look.
