PlayStation Now is Sony’s version of a game streaming service, with some of the best games the platform has ever offered players. You can both stream games or download them locally to play on your console, whether that console be a PS4 or a PS5.
You can also stream PlayStation Now games to your PC, which is how some players will get to experience the best that PlayStation has to offer for the very first time. Whether you’re new to PlayStation in general or just new to PlayStation Now, we’ve rounded up a list of the best PlayStation Now games you can dive into.
This is a post we’ll be updating regularly as Sony routinely adds games to and removes games from the service. At current it stands at over 700 titles. That’s a lot of games to play. Enough to last you years. If you’ve decided to take on the herculean task of playing every single PlayStation Now game, or if you just want to see what it offers, here’s where you should start.
Sony’s PlayStation Now has a lot of good titles to dig into. But you might be struggling with the decision of where to begin. If that’s you, not to worry. This list is here to help. Keep in mind that these are merely suggestions. While these are excellent games, in the end you may still find them unappealing. And that’s ok.
But if you need or want some ideas on what to play first, let these suggestions serve as those ideas. Keep in mind that all or some of the ones listed here are due for a removal in the future at some point. You can check the dates that some of these games leave on Sony’s official page for PlayStation Now. Only the dates for the featured games are listed though.
The Borderlands series needs no introduction for most people that play games. It’s been around for years at this point and Borderlands 3 is the latest offering. It’s also one of the best PlayStation Now games you can play right now.
Especially since there’s a ton of DLC to enjoy alongside the base game. Borderlands 3 is filled with all of the best parts of the Borderlands franchise. Which is to say that it doesn’t skimp on any of the hilarious and chaotic dialogue or events. You want guns that turn into turrets and chase down your enemies while verbally insulting them? Borderlands 3 has it.
You want a looter shooter with more guns than you know what you to do with? Borderlands 3 has it. You want hours upon hours of quests and gameplay? Borderlands 3 has it. If you like first-person shooters, this is one of the most fun first-person shooters you could invest time into. The game will be available on PlayStation Now until September 29 of 2021.
Before the masterpiece Ghost Of Tsushima was anywhere near a release, Sucker Punch was working on and releasing another really great game. That game is inFAMOUS Second Son.
While it also features an open world full of things for you to explore, it trades the setting of 13th century Japan for modern day Seattle, Washington. You play as Delsin Rowe, a 24-year old street artist who finds out he has super powers after they were absorbed from another in-game character. You spend the rest of the game fighting against the corporation that created these powerful humans.
The game features a wide array of different things to do. Including fighting against the city’s many different enemies, uncovering hidden secrets, and completing a fair share of achievements. inFAMOUS Second Son is a title with ongoing access. So it should be sticking around for the long haul.
It’s impossible to talk about some of the best games on PlayStation Now without mentioning Bloodborne. Because Bloodborne is simply one of the best games on the PlayStation platform. Period.
Many will revere it as the best Souls game too. And although it is not an official title in the Dark Souls franchise, it’s developed by FromSoftware. Responsible for the original Demon Souls, as well as Dark Souls 1-3, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Bloodborne is like any of the Soulsborne games. Punishing, yet menacingly rewarding when you finally down that boss you’ve been on for a week straight. It’s an action-rpg that offers challenging encounters which require nothing short of an endless supply of resolve. You’ll probably die a lot throughout your experience.
But it’s all worth it to bring down the game’s many huge bosses with any number of the available character builds you can create. It also has a pretty good story with some interesting lore. Bloodborne is a permanent PlayStation Now title with ongoing access. Though it does not offer access to the DLC content.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the last game in the series to have released. it’s also the last game in the series directed by Hideo Kojima, who has helmed the series since the first game.
It’s also a masterpiece that shouldn’t be missed if you like stealth action. There’s also a lot more to do in this title than in past Metal Gear Solid games. Like building up your base and recruiting more soldiers to fight alongside you. It’s vastly more open world, too.
While the game includes many serious moments both in and out of cutscenes, it also never loses the familiarity of comedic value from previous titles. You can still hide from enemies in cardboard boxes. You can also use a tool called a surface-to-air-recovery system to air lift animals like sheep and cows to your base.
Then two minutes later you could be easily be in a shootout with enemy forces. It’s without a doubt one of the best games on PlayStation Now and worthy of the time it takes to play it.
This is another looter game but it puts you in the shoes of many of the most popular comic book heroes from the Avengers universe. Including Iron Man, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, Thor, Black Widow, and the Hulk. With more heroes on the way.
You’ll get to experience a pretty solid story campaign and after that’s over, you have end-game content to dive into with other players. Such as higher difficulty dungeons and other activities.
Each outing from the Avengers home base affords opportunities to come across better, more powerful gear that help your character grow stronger. And the best part about the campaign is that it takes you through playing all of the heroes. Once you get far enough into the game you can choose to play whichever hero you like the most.
If you like looter games, this is an awesome entry in the genre. So definitely give it a go. This title is only available till July 5. Then Sony is removing it. So if you want your chance to experience it, do so quickly.
Horizon Zero Dawn is another one of the best games on PlayStation Now as well as one of the best games of the PS4 generation. Receiving critical acclaim throughout the industry and from fans.
The story is set in the far future, where you play the role of a huntress in a world filled with robotic versions of prehistoric beasts. If that description alone doesn’t sound exciting, give the trailer above a watch and see if that doesn’t intrigue you.
How did humankind lose their role as the dominant species? How did these giant robotic beasts come to be? Horizon Zero Dawn takes you through answering these questions and more as you set out on one wild adventure after another.
This is an action RPG game, so expect plenty of gorgeous combat and loads of character progression as you level up.
This isn’t the remastered version that was launched on PS4, but rather the original that was released for the PS3. Nevertheless, it’s a game you don’t to pass up if you have played either version. And it’ll set you up for playing the second game.
The Last Of Us is a story-rich zombie apocalypse title that follows the lives of Ellie and Joel as they try to survive in a world that gets hit with a zombie outbreak.
It’s gritty, emotionally charged, and filled with plenty of action moments that may just have you questioning your own morals. It’s also one of the best zombie games ever made.
Nioh is another action RPG much like Bloodborne, but it comes from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, and has a Samurai theme. Taking place in a fictional Japan in the Sengoku period, you play as William, a masterful samurai trained by the legendary Tokugawa Ieyasu.
You’ll need to use your arsenal of samurai skills to cut through both human enemies, as well as supernatural yokai. Combat is just as punishing if not more punishing than in Bloodborne. But still just as rewarding when you finally get past a particularly challenging battle.
The version on PlayStation Now is the original release, and not the remastered version that was just recently released alongside the second game for the PS5.
Nioh is also an ongoing access title so it’ll be around for the foreseeable future.
