As mentioned, if you’re short on time or you just want to gloss over everything we’ve selected quickly, you can find the summary table above with the same information. Just without the descriptions.
Let’s face it. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S don’t come with a ton of internal storage, which makes this expansion card one of the best Xbox Series X and Series S accessories out there and it was a must-have for our gift-guide.
It should also be a must-have for your setup, because next-gen games are going to massive. Not all of them, mind you, but likely a lot of them. And the older the consoles get, the more games are going to come out that are at those larger file sizes.
Seagate is going to make different sizes of these in the future, but for now they only sell the 1TB option, and you just might need that much extra space. It’s also the only officially supported storage expansion accessory, and it replicates the Xbox Velocity Architecture.
Which means faster load times just like if the game were loading off of the Xbox Series X’s internal storage. If you play a lot of games on your console, then trust us. You’re going to want this.
The console will come with one controller in the box. So you’ll be ready to play the moment you open it up and connect everything.
But chances are you might want or need a second controller. Especially if you plan to play with other people. The new Shock Blue color of the Xbox Wireless controller is a great option and was announced alongside the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
It’s a fun new color that hasn’t be available before and it jazzes things up a bit. Which is never a bad thing if you want to bring a little bit of flair to your setup.
Since this is an official controller from Microsoft it’ll work with both next-gen consoles, as well as the Xbox One X and Windows 10 PCs.
If you need to step your game up some, then the Elite Series 2 controller is one of the best Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S accessories you can buy, and we knew it had to be on our gift guide.
This is the controller you buy if you want to have an edge on the competition in competitive games like Call Of Duty, Halo, or other games where you’re playing against other players in multiplayer modes.
It has loads of features like adaptive triggers, height adjustable thumbsticks, adjustable paddles on the back for extra controls, and swappable dpads and thumbsticks to fit your personal taste for how you play.
Microsoft also improved the grip on this controller in just about any area where your hands are going to be resting on this thing. For those that want next-level performance, this is the controller designed specifically for that.
SteelSeries makes some of the best headsets on the market and this is one of the accessories for the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S that could be an invaluable one to have.
For one it’s wireless, which means no having to plug in a headset to the controller. It’s also versatile since this works for PC too. If you ever need to switch from the Xbox to the PC for your gaming, you can continue using this headset. You can also use it for PS4 which means you should be able to use it for PS5 as well, and it works for Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite, and Android devices.
It has a flexible yet durable height adjustable headband, a detachable ClearCast microphone that’s Discord-certified for when you play on PC, and large cushioned earpads for added comfort during longer play sessions.
On top of all that it charges via USB-C and it features on-ear controls for volume, chat muting, power and more. Plus the price isn’t too shabby.
If you want some audio that’s a little bit more premium, you can step up to the Black Shark V2 Pro from Razer.
This is also a wireless headset and features a detachable mic for when you don’t need it. When it comes to compatibility, it works with Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
For audio it’s using Razer’s THX 7.1 surround spatial audio. So you can probably expect unparalleled sound quality with this headset. At least compared to the Arctis 1 Wireless which is a good headset, but this is better.
Controls are on-ear too, so everything is easily accessible even if you’re in the middle of a match. And, Razer’s headsets always tend to be extremely comfortable. So you should have no trouble wearing the Black Shark V2 Pro all day if you want to.
While you can easily charge your controllers with cables, it looks a ton more elegant and it’s less cluttered if you use a charging station/dock/stand.
This one in particular from Controller Gear is officially licensed by Microsoft and the Xbox team. The one downside is that it only charges one controller. So if you have more than one controller then you need two of these.
The good news about that though is that you can use this to customize your charging stand. Because this comes in Black, White, and the Shock Blue that the new controllers come in. It also comes in nearly every other color that the Xbox One controllers come in, so you can customize things quite nicely.
The one thing to keep in mind here is that if you get one of these charging stands that’s compatible with Xbox One controllers, it won’t be compatible with your Series X controller. You can however use your Xbox One controllers on the Series X and Series S. So if you have one of those controllers with a different color, you can get the matching charging stand and still use that controller with the new console.
You just want to make sure to get the charging stand that’s compatible with the Series X controller too, if you want one for it as well. Those ones are marked as Universal and they explicitly state that they have Series X compatibility.
If you like adding these little details to your setup, then you’ll probably want a different charging stand for each controller. Options are never a bad thing when it comes to customization.
The humble media remote. Depending on how much media you plan to watch via your new consoles, this may not get a whole lot of use. But it’s nice to have when it does get used. Because navigating the media UIs on consoles is not exactly the greatest with the game controllers.
This might just be a preference thing, but the media remotes definitely feel much more natural for interacting with the media content. It has proper buttons for navigating in all directions of the media interface, as well as actual pause/play buttons, and buttons for adjusting volume and channels up and down.
It even has motion activated backlit buttons. That way the buttons are only lighting up when you use it. Thus helping to save battery life.
At $20, this media remote is a proper steal too. A small price to pay for a better media experience with your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series, and one of the best accessories on our gift guide. One thing to keep in mind is that the remote seems to only be for sale from third-party sellers right now, which has driven up the price quite a bit to $60. So it might be worth waiting until it comes back down.
For most games, you’re probably going to be using the actual controller. And that makes perfect sense.
But once in a while, it might just make more sense to use a mouse and keyboard. Thanks to Razer’s Turret wireless mechanical keyboard for Xbox Series X (it works with the Xbox Series S, Xbox One and One X too), you can have that more precise KBM feel for the games that sometimes kinda need it.
Plus, it sure makes typing a whole lot easier when you’re using this instead of the digital keyboard with the controller. Of course this can also be used for PC if you ever want to use it for that as well. It has a fairly long-lasting battery life, with Razer claiming about 50 hours for the mouse and 43 hours for the keyboard. Or, 30 hours for the mouse and 11 hours for the keyboard if you have the RGB lighting turned on.
The mouse mat is also retractable and stows away in the keyboard when not in use.
Lots of people love games, including those that may have more limited mobility and find it hard or impossible to play with a normal controller.
That’s what makes the Xbox Adaptive Controller one of the best accessories for Xbox Series X and why it deserved a spot on our gift guide. It opens up more possibilities for controlling and playing games, thanks to its large amount of ports and wide range of compatibility with different devices to adapt to the user.
It’s a unified hub, so you can plug tons of different accessibility devices into it using the onboard 3.5mm and USB ports.
The new Charge & Play kit that works with the Xbox Series X controllers is definitely one of the accessories you’re going to want to have. Even if you have the wireless charging stand(s).
Sometimes you may forget to toss the controller on the stand when you’re done playing, and if that’s the case, you’ll likely run into the issue of the batteries dying on you in the middle of a game.
With the rechargeable battery and USB-C cable, you can simply slot the battery into the controller and then plug the cable into it and the Xbox Series X and continue playing. The controller will charge as you play so the next time you want to play wirelessly, you’ll be all set.
These are a lifesaver if you run out of battery during gameplay and don’t feel like waiting for the controller to charge back up.
