According to Android Police, wearable notifications on Android 12 will be easier to control. In the Android 12 Developer Preview 3, there are signs of a new level of granular control over apps. This control even covers apps that can access the notification listener service.

Whereas Android 11 has more of an all-or-nothing switch. This means that either a helper app like Android Wear can access all of your notification data, or it can’t. However, starting in the Android 12 Developer Preview 3 this becomes more subtle.

The new version of the settings app on the Android 12 Developer Preview 3, goes a bit more in-depth on what you can do with notifications. Originally, there was only one toggle for all notifications. But now, it goes one step further and breaks down into four new groups.

These groups are real-time, conversations, default, and silent. It is always good to have more control over what your phone can do. Of course, default and silent do not need any type of explanation. But, real-time notifications are or ongoing events like calls and music controls.

Conversations cover texts, emails, messaging apps, and others that are incoming from other users. By giving users more control over what certain apps have access Android 12 will allow for more levels of customizability. For users who want to control what notifications come through this new system will definitely help.

Wearable notifications on Android 12 will introduce granular notifications control

As of now, the implementation seems to be pretty much complete. This new level of notification security is especially in this day and age when security is becoming more important to consumers. Unfortunately, features that appear in developer previews do not always make it into the final release.

The more control and security features that come to Android are always good. Android used to have a shaky reputation when it came to security and permissions access. Google is trying to change this and the company seems to be succeeding.

Google is becoming more and more focused on privacy. They have changed how privacy works in Google Chrome, and have made other moves towards increasing privacy overall. This focus could not come at a better time. At one point even the company’s employees were not exactly pleased with its privacy policy.

Android 12 is shaping up to be a pretty cool release. Hopefully, once it launches, OEMs will adopt it quickly. Google will undoubtedly be first out of the gate with its next Pixel phones. Hopefully, companies like Samsung will be able to increase the speed of their adoption.
