Earlier this month RedMagic officially announced the RedMagic 6 and RedMagic 6 Pro gaming phones, and starting in April you will have the chance to buy them in the US.
Right now the two latest RedMagic gaming devices are available to buy in China. But a global release wasn't set for the same time. Instead the launch would be coming up later in the year, albeit without any specified dates.
Today RedMagic has confirmed the date which you can buy the upcoming RedMagic 6 or RedMagic 6 Pro. In addition to that it also announced the pricing. And for the cost, the RedMagic 6 could end up being a very nice alternative to the likes of the ROG Phone 5.
Our review hailed the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate as the ultimate mobile gaming machine. But it's also likely to end costing hundreds more than the Pro model of RedMagic's latest device.
All or most of RedMagic's past gaming phones have been formidable devices. Often or always coming with the very best in top-tier components. The same is true here as both model phones are coming with the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform.
You also get 16GB of RAM in the Pro, which comes with 256GB of storage. Even though ASUS hasn't announced US pricing for its ROG Phone 5 series yet, it seems quite likely that RedMagic is winning on the cost front.
If you don't quite need 16GB of RAM, or the full 256GB of storage, the standard RedMagic 6 comes with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and it only costs $599. The RedMagic 6 Pro meanwhile is only $100 more for a total of $699.
Compare that to the potential $1,200 cost of the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate, or the potential $1,100 cost of the Pro version, and you're getting a big savings for almost all of the same specs. So clearly RedMagic is trying to capture some of the mobile gaming market by offering devices that are just as powerful for a lot less money.
The phone may be launching on April 9, but this is only when pre-orders start. Open sales for the global market, which includes the US, doesn't start until a week later, on April 15.
That means that's the day you can buy the device and it should ship relatively soon after you pay for it. There doesn't appear to be any special deals for anyone that pre-orders. So unless you absolutely need to be the first to get one, or you're worried that there will be stock issues, you could always wait to buy the RedMagic 6 until opening day.
