OnePlus 9 Pro teardown

The OnePlus 9 Pro got disassembled by iFixit, and the company has revealed not-so-great repairability. Truth be said, that’s rather normal when it comes to modern flagships.

The OnePlus 9 Pro repairability isn’t exactly great, but that is to be expected for modern flagships

The company disassembled the phone in a video format. It published a video that has a duration of about four minutes, and that video is embedded below the article. Spoiler alert, the phone got a 4 out of 10 in terms of repairability.

So, what’s the problem? Well, the phone’s rear panel is glued in really well. Which is great for water resistance and dust protection, but not so great for repairability. It does complicate things a bit.

On top of that, the phone is loaded with 5G antennas, while accessing the display requires a lot of disassembly. So, if you do manage to mess up the display, it will take whoever repairs the phone quite a bit of time to access it.

OnePlus did make it easy to remove the phone’s battery, though, as large pull tabs are included. The OnePlus 9 Pro also has a relatively modular construction, which did contribute towards its repairability score.

Now, 4 out of 10 doesn’t sound like a great repairability score, and it isn’t, but there are phones out there with lower scores. Quite a few of them have lower scores, in fact. If you’d like to check out the whole process, the video is embedded below.

Both the OnePlus 9 & 9 Pro are already on sale

The OnePlus 9 Pro launched alongside the OnePlus 9 last month. Both phones are now available to purchase, though iFixit still didn’t disassemble the OnePlus 9.

It remains to be seen whether the company will get its hands on the based OnePlus 9 model. It would be interesting to see how the two compare. The OnePlus 9 has a flat display, and we’d guess that the rest of the phone is made in a similar fashion. So there may be some differences, but not significant ones. If iFixit does get its hands on the OnePlus 9, we’ll let you know.

Both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are out of the pre-order phase, and are now available to purchase. If you’re interested, click here.
